Division Vice President & Director
David R. Velasquez was appointed division vice president and director, Precision Glass Solutions in May 2017. In this role, Velasquez is responsible for growing Corning’s glass business in emerging electronics applications. Velasquez joined Corning in 2001 as a strategic planning manager in Corning Optical Fiber. He moved into product line management and was appointed to run the product line portfolio in 2007.
In 2010, Velasquez moved into the Corning® Gorilla® Glass division to lead marketing and commercial operations. He built the analysis, forecasting, customer service, PLM, marketing
communications, and branding functions as the business grew to $1B in two years. He led the transition of five generations of Gorilla Glass and commercialization of OGS offerings, antireflective and antimicrobial products, offerings for low priced applications, and screen protectors.
In 2015, Velasquez was appointed commercial director, Advanced Optics. There, he drove Keene
facility turnaround, by-product profitability and P+L management, customer introduction of new
soot-pressed products for photomasks, and return to volume production and sales of EUV
In 2016, he was appointed business director, Precision Glass Solutions. He led the newly-formed
business consolidating Corning’s businesses and innovation programs targeting glass penetration into the semiconductor, micro-optics, sensors, augmented reality, and other CE-based markets that use wafers, panels, and TGVs (through-glass-vias).
Prior to Corning, Velasquez served as a U.S. Army aviator in a number of leadership and operational roles in Korea and the United States, departing after commanding an attack helicopter company.
Velasquez holds a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at
West Point and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
